Talking to yourself

This morning I was listening to “Only Jesus” by Brian Johnson. At one point, the lyrics state, “For me, For me, only Jesus.” Other songs follow a similar pattern where there is a combination of worshipful lyrics directed to God and lyrics spoken to oneself. Why would we want to speak to ourselves, “For me, only Jesus” right after we were glorifying God in first person by telling Him how He is full of glory Read more…

Insights into the Intangible book release

Insights into the Intangible is being released (links on the “Book” tab). Once you read the book, I certainly can use constructive comments that are both loving and useful in creating a revision. Eventually, I would also like to write another book on this subject including more insights into the intangible. If I do this, I would love to know what topics are of most interest to readers. I mention some possible future topics at Read more…

The gods of this world (part 2)

As I mentioned in part 1 of this subject, many cultures had gods that personified certain aspects of the world such as thunder, war, and fear. What intangible issues have you been facing? The gods of this world may not be controlling every lightning bolt or forcing everyone to be afraid of public speaking, spiders, and flying. However, the rebellious spiritual forces are in opposition to our Creator God. Everything they do aims to turn Read more…

The gods of this world (part 1)

Did you ever wonder why The Avengers movies have Thor as the god of thunder? Why does Wonder Woman depict Ares as the god of war? Many cultures honored gods that were personifications of certain attributes or realities of the world. The Norse tradition had Thor as personifying thunder just as the Romans had Ares as personifying war. To go even further, the planet Mars (also Ares) has two moons named after two of the Read more…

I almost got killed today…

I almost got killed today driving home from work. I was driving uphill on a curvy secondary road when a garbage truck was coming the other way. The two drivers of vehicles behind the garbage truck became impatient and passed it despite it being a double-line on a two-lane road. Neither driver must have seen me or else they were both trying to drive recklessly. The first driver sped around the garbage truck with no Read more…

Our battle is not against flesh and blood…

Ephesians 6 tells us that our battle is not against flesh and blood. This oftentimes gets misunderstood as meaning there is an internal struggle against sin that all people must overcome in order to live holy lives. I agree that we want to live lives aligned with how God created us. However, the powers, principalities, rulers, authorities, “cosmic powers” (or whatever you want to call them) are the opposition that Paul refers to. These are Read more…

God is no longer “mystical”

One of the categories for this blog is the “intangible” realm. We may see it as having to do with a “sixth sense” or something “mystical,” New Age, or supernatural, depending on our religious backgrounds. I feel that God is no longer “mystical” in the sense that He is no longer “unknowable.” Soon, many people will be celebrating Passover, Easter, and other festivals, some of which try to point back at Jesus Christ dying as Read more…

Everyday Cooking with Kids

This is my daughter cooking with me several years ago. Although she is older now, we cooked again tonight just as we do every-so-often. She, along with my younger son, helped make chicken, rice, and Asian vegetables. Kids learning how to cook is the same as most people learning how to do anything. We build more advanced knowledge on top of a foundation of more fundamental knowledge. When my daughter was younger, as in the Read more…
